Scribble Maps
“Scribble Maps is an interactive Google Maps application that allows you to draw, write, add shapes, lines, etc to Google Maps” (Dean, 2011, p. 1).
A PMI has been constructed to show the benefits and dangers of Scribble Maps in schools.
Positives
Ø Great interactive tool for students to use.
Ø Free ICT tool to integrate into lesson plans.
Ø Scribble Maps offers a large range of capabilities (such as marking, measuring).
Ø Finished maps can easily be uploaded as images and shared with links.
Minuses
Ø May require step by step instructions for beginners.
Ø Students may become distracted when using this tool due to the number of accessible elements.
Ø Some students may become frustrated when using the ICT tool.
Interesting
Ø Scribble Maps can be integrated into a number of curriculum areas.
Ø Learning managers can scaffold the students’ learning by integrating this tool into the lesson plan. By using this tool the students will engage in higher order thinking and therefore their learning experience will be effective.
